The Auxiliary sponsors fundraisers, such as the Annual Benefit Luncheon honoring Diocesan Catholic Volunteer Women, to help underwrite the Agency’s programs.

2011 CATHOLIC WOMAN OF THE YEAR
Denyse Gagnon
 Denyse Gagnon founded a women’s prayer breakfast for Women’s
Ministry in her parish and does a monthly newsletter for this group. She is a spiritual director for renewal
weekend as wel as a lay director for
the renewal program for inmates at James Musik Facility in Irvine. Denyse also started a transitional home
for homeless women. She has linked
churches of all denominations with volunteer opportunities and assists with fundraising for
Children’s Hospital of Orange County. Denyse helps
her Home Owners Association in keeping her neighborhood safe. This year, Denyse Gagnon will represent all the Catholic Women Volunteers in the Diocese of Orange.
2010 CATHOLIC WOMAN OF THE YEAR
JoWan Mothershead
 JoWan Mothershead is the founder of Catholic Social Justice Ministry. She observes, judges and educates parishes on issues of justice and charity as defined by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops "Communities of Salt and Light". She is the current diocesan representative for Peace and Social Justice. She is a current volunteer for lF lllumination Foundation Medical Vans. JoWan was a hospice volunteer at St. Joseph and Mission Hospitals. Currently, she volunteers with NODA - No One Dies Alone. JoWan also organized Sunday School for 4 & 5 year-olds. Congratulations, JoWan!
2009 CATHOLIC WOMAN OF THE YEAR
 The thirty-third annual Catholic Woman of the Year luncheon, honoring volunteer women from the Diocese of Orange, was held at the Hyatt Regency, Irvine on May 4, 2009. Over 600 people gathered to recognize 36 women from Orange County who have given of their time and talents to the entire community of Orange County. This special event was sponsored by the Catholic Women’s Auxiliary, which was founded in 1976. From all of these talented and giving women, Nominee Margo Lazzari, St. Anne Parish, Seal Beach Women’s Guild was chosen to represent Catholic Women Volunteers of Orange County for 2009. Evangeline Gawaronski presented the nominees and emphasized how difficult choosing one individual from such a talented list of nominees had been for the three judges: Betty Lacy, Jane Luppi, and Jeanne Karcher.
